Step SevenSchedule your training with Quita MazzinaOnce your equipment has been ordered and you have delivery dates, please contact Quita Mazzina ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) to schedule your training. Your complete staff will train here at our clinic in Asheville, NC for one week. They will be trained by members of our staff, dedicated for that period of time to training and nothing else. Your team will need to arrive at the clinic on 7:45am Monday morning to begin training, and will train through Thursday afternoon. We will then send a team (typically a veterinarian and a veterinary technician) to your clinic for two weeks. Their training dates start on your opening day, so they will be there to help you through opening. Our training team salaries are currently covered by grants, but you are responsible for paying for their travel expenses and hotel accommodations. If your location is over 10 hours driving distance away from Asheville, our team will need to fly. You are also responsible for paying for your team’s travel expenses (to whatever degree you deem appropriate).
Once you schedule your training with Quita, Marianne will be in touch to work on the details. Receive clinic equipment and finish setting up your facilityIf you are not familiar with the equipment Dr. Brestle ordered for you, and need help identifying items as they arrive at your clinic, please use our handy guide (filled with pictures!). Equipment List Check-In Guide (PDF) Please check out the link below for tips on setting up your scavenger and oxygen systems. Oxygen and Scavenger Set-up Information (PDF)Now would also be a good time to order your admission forms and rabies tags. Our admission form is available below, if you’d like to base yours on our template. Our form is a four-part carbon form, with pages 1 and 4 white, page 2 yellow, and page 3 pink. Contact Marianne at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you’d like a physical copy of the form mailed to you. We order our forms from Business Forms & Supplies, a local printing company that ships nationwide (they are currently supplying forms to about 15 of the other NSNRT clinics). Please contact Buford Adcock at 828-698-1164 for prices and information. Admission Form, Pages 1 and 2 (Microsoft Word document) Rabies tags can be ordered from a number of your equipment manufacturers. They will send you a template to fill out indicating what text you would like on the tags. Hire Veterinarian and submit their application for a temporary NC licenseAs soon as you hire your veterinarian, please ask him/her to complete and mail in the NC Temporary Permit License. The process can take up to 60 days, so the sooner, the better. Please use the application below - the application listed on the NC Veterinary Medical Board website is NOT the correct application for our purposes. When your vet is ready to fill out the application, please email Marianne Luft for a jpg file of page 3 signed by our training veterinarians. Application for 60 Day Temporary Permit Certificate (PDF file) It is a requirement for training that your vet have his/her temporary NC license secured. At this time, you might also want to provide your vet with our outline for vet training. Outline for Veterinarian Training (PDF file) Hire medical support staff and office staffHumane Alliance recommends that your clinic be staffed by, at minimum: one veterinarian, one veterinary technician, one veterinary assistant, one office manager, and one executive director. Determine your clinic software needsIn 2005, Humane Alliance helped to create online spay/neuter software with Adam O’Neil, a local developer. We have made this software available to NSNRT clinics. You can check it out at www.humanesolution.com. You are in no way obligated to use Humane Solution. There are other options available, though HS is our favorite by a long shot. If you decide to use Humane Solution, we will train your staff on the software extensively during your week in Asheville. We will also help you set up your clinic on the software. Please make sure to sign up for a free 30-day trial a few weeks prior to coming to Asheville. You can do this on the HS website. Plan and schedule an open house for opening week to answer questions from the public and local vetsIdeally, you should schedule an open house while our staff is there to help answer questions (so, within the first two weeks of opening). We recommend that you invite everyone you can think of, especially your local veterinarians. |
