The Program

Humane Alliance did not create the idea of a stationary clinic, nor are we the only organization that operates one. However, we developed the National Spay Neuter Response Team as a mentoring program so that others could benefit from our experience. We achieve our high volume model in two ways:

  1. From public animals brought to us by their owners.
  2. Through our extensive network of partners in the shelter/rescue community, who send us additional surgical patients via our transport program.

The NSNRT program covers the launch and operations from A to Z of a spay/neuter clinic modeled after our own, and follows five key phases. Many materials for the preparation and management of your clinics can be accessed through our free and comprehensive E-Learning site.

Phase 1: Application

At this, the application stage, we will guide you through the initial steps of starting a new business in this field, from community analysis and detailed budgeting, to floor plan development for your new clinic and equipment purchasing.

Phase 2: Preparation

Once you’re on your way to putting your plan into action, we will continue to provide guidance on human resources, marketing, and SOPs, plus address any issues you may be having in the setup of your clinic. 

Phase 3: Asheville Training

Our comprehensive guidance culminates when the staff of your new clinic visits Asheville for an intensive one-week, hands-on learning experience. They will be trained by members of our staff, who are dedicated for that period of time exclusively to training you.

The medical staff on your team will be in surgery each day. Your administrative staff will receive a customized training schedule that will cover various topics throughout the week. They will also spend a minimum of one day's training in basic medical operations. Your entire staff will come together for a classroom session with your Humane Alliance training veterinarian at the end of each day.

Phase 4: Onsite Training

Following your training in Asheville, we will send a team to your clinic for one week, which usually coincides with your opening day. The team typically consists of two staff members: a veterinarian and a veterinary assistant. Our training team salaries are currently covered by grants, but you are responsible for covering their travel and hotel expenses.

Phase 5: Consultation Visit

NSNRT members have the option of requesting an additional one-week consultation visit within six months of their initial Asheville training. This consultation visit is designed to help you fine-tune your clinic, working on flow, budgeting, and any other issues that may have arisen during your first months of business. Please note, however, that this follow-up visit is not intended to provide training for new staff members.
